The Entrepreneurial Journey of Gohar Iqbal and Johnny & Jugnu

Gohar Iqbal, co-founder and managing partner of Johnny & Jugnu, is a young entrepreneur aiming to revolutionize Pakistan’s fast food scene. After graduating from LUMS in 2014 with a degree in Economics, he ventured into entrepreneurship, avoiding the corporate world. Gohar launched small businesses, including a food delivery platform and a marketing agency, but eventually shifted focus when his mentor, Dr. Adnan, invited him to help launch a restaurant for his cousins. This opportunity led to the birth of Johnny & Jugnu, a brand now planning to open 14 outlets across Pakistan in the next two years.

Johnny & Jugnu initially started as a small-scale burger joint in DHA, where their signature sauces became the highlight of their offerings. The turning point came when the brand capitalized on a viral talcum powder ad by Mr. Excuse Me, creating a quirky marketing campaign. This cringe-worthy yet catchy campaign skyrocketed their sales, generating significant media attention and taking the brand to new heights within six months.

Several factors contributed to the success of Johnny & Jugnu. One of the most important was Gohar’s hands-on approach, spending significant time in the kitchen and managing daily operations. This experience allowed him to understand every aspect of the business. Gohar also emphasized the importance of building a strong customer base rather than relying solely on food delivery platforms. His belief that restaurants should first establish themselves as viable standalone businesses before leveraging delivery platforms proved crucial to the brand’s sustainability and growth.
